While the common man is struggling to withdraw money from his account as per the restrictions imposed by the government and cooperating patiently for the historic steps on demonetisation, corrupt babus were able to acquires crores in the new notes and store in their houses.
Two Karnataka government engineers, are among the four found in possession of a total of Rs 5.7 crore in new currency and more than Rs 152 crore in total wealth by the Income Tax department.
The engineers are SC Jayachandra, Chief Project Officer for the Karnataka State Highway Development Scheme and TN Chikkarayappa, Managing Director of the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited. Both of them are closely linked to top Congress leaders in Karnataka.
Engineers Jayachandra and TN Chikkarayappa has earned not more than Rs. 10 lakh a year through their legal income. But the raids by taxmen revealed that the jaw-dropping extras they had acquired over the time - a Lamborghini, Volvo, MV Agusta, Ducati 749, multiple luxury apartments, gold and Rs. 5.7 crore in brand new 2000-rupee notes.
"Trails are being pursued by agencies. The result is already visible. It will be more visible in the coming days," said Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das.
